Battlefield Bad Company 2 - The thinking man's MW 2??

Postby [FnG] Lazz on Sun Feb 14, 2010 12:54 am

Hi all

So about 2 weeks ago, I found out that a couple of people who I regularly played left 4 dead with have previously played Battlefield games and had ordered BC 2 so I decided to pre order it on steam and get early beta access.

This game is fun, even though theres only one map to judge from in the beta. It has dedicated servers, great physics and generally feels better to play than MW 2. It might simply be that in MW 2, I didn't play with anyone I knew whereas in BC 2, I play with a couple of people, but it generally feels more fun.

A few cool things about it that make it a better alternative to modern warfare 2:

Dedicated servers
Superior physics - Houses can be blown to the ground, trees get knocked over, sniper bullets are delayed when travelling long distances and take gravity into account
Vehicles are great. Can't fly the helicopter to save my life but getting into one with someone who can is great fun.
More room for strategy than MW 2
Squad system which allows 4 players per squad who can spawn next to each other. So if one person in a squad is closer to the enemy or behind enemy lines, the rest of the squad can spawn on that person

BC 2 also has some great moments. Its not that MW 2 doesn't have its moments, it does, its just that Ive had more adrenaline rushes in the 2 weeks of playing a 1 map beta than in all my time playing mw 2.

Couple of examples:

A few days ago I was playing on the side of defence in the ingame map. I was hiding in some tree's when a guy came down in a buggy at high speed. Just as he passed me, although at medium distance, I managed to shoot him with the sniper rifle and he fell off the buggy. Meanwhile the buggy got 2 wheels on part of the cliff (while still going at speed), flipped over and exploded while one of its tyres rolled across the screen.

Most recent example was today. We were on the attacking team and a mate of mine got into a tank. I spawned on him and became the passenger machine gunner. I mowed down the trees so he could get clearer shots of the objective buildings to cover our attacking team mates. I also gave team mates covering fire as well as watching out for enemies with RPG's, always calling them out and marking them (pressing q marks enemies, which allows other team mates to see their location).

Each time we got hit by an RPG, he would reverse so we were out harms way. He would then get out, as an engineer, and repair the vehicle while I remain on the machine gun giving covering fire against any attackers. As it worked out, we won the game, despite the enemy outnumbering us and having high ranks than us.

You don't get that experience in modern warfare 2 :)

I've tried the demo on the xbox.

It's OK. I was pretty disappointed to begin with, but it is growing on me.

I had a love/hate relationship with Bad Company 1. It didnt have conquest mode when released and no revive abillity for the medic. There was alos no ammo support class.

But now they included both of these things, and a whole lot more! Ive been playing beta since it went live now, and i gotta say im hooked! Its not as mindblowingly awesome as BF2 was in its heyday, but its really fun, moreso than MW2.

Scrap that, what a load of rubbish. When this game works, it is great, but I haven't been able to play multiplayer for weeks now and it crashes every time I load up single player. In all the years Ive been gaming, Ive never not been able to play a game due to this sort of problem.

10% of the time this is fantastic.
the other 90% its awful.

full of cheaters, finding a ballanced server is like trying to find a student who reguarly wakes before noon and it crashes. hard. with no reason.
...still for that 10% it is amazing.

Heey guys :D

I've been playing this game quite alot with a couple of friends from school and when you get in a squad together and we talk via Skype it's so much fun.
Got to level 20 in 2 weeks time :D

Been great fun overal and the few crashes I experienced were fixed fast with a simple graphics driver update.
Had some issues with the ingame sound that when I minimized to my mailbox, sometimes the ingame sound got really quiet and all I could hear were my mates yapping.
Overal it's a blast.

Ciao,
Zed :horror:

Just got this at the weekend for the Xbox 360, and I f**in' love it. Best Battlefield since 1942 in my opinion.

First game in a long time that is having me kick my heels at work, desperate to get home. Not that I'll get on teh xbox until Her Maj has buggered off to bed anyway...

Ive seen some good write ups for this. Although reading the previous posts give me second thoughts.
Have they patched/solved the bugginess issues?
And is anyone else playing on the PC version ( Not Bawsy and his toy computer ;-)
Suicide is PAINLESS. Whoops I was kidding...

You missed a trick not getting it for the Xbox 360, matey.
It runs great (Ive heard very demanding for the PC), its the type of game you want hooked up to your huge screen and surround sound system, and most importantly, it means you cant play with me.

Also, its nowhere near as twitchy as MW2, so you wouldnt have needed to worry too much about your spazzy hands miscontrolling the thumb-sticks. ;)

Xbox360 my most expensive media player to date :P Seriously though my thing is fps and for the life of my spazzy fingers...lmao...I JUST CANT DO IT . I watch those mw2 gameplay vids on youtube and just think they must either have a keyboard or are cheatin bas****s. Got to hand it to Microsoft though, the durability of those xbox controllers is admirable, maybe is because I got carpets in the room

Just bought a new gaming laptop mate so have hdmi out and the ati 5870 will blow any console out of the water...however I will step back into the xbox world intermittantly. I had high hopes that Konnect [spelling?] would cure my fat stiff fingers but thats looking decidably iffy at the moment.

Apologies for the thread highjack
